Description
A photo I took of a water scorpion (Ranatra sp.) who seems to have a water mite infestation. Water scorpions look much better up close, when their facial features are apparent. This one was a cooperative photography subject, just hanging motionless near the surface of the aquarium at a suitably photogenic angle. A water scorpion remains motionless as a way to ambush unsuspecting prey, which it seizes with its raptorial arms and then liquefies with an injection of enzymes from its beak.

Man, that's beautiful. The mites are like little baubles.
